Poetic Devices
Metaphor
Comparing two unlike things without using like or as and by stating that one object is something it obviously isn't.
My example of a metaphor is:
He was not a cheetah.
Imagery
Appealing to the five senses in someway: sight, sound, scent, touch and taste. This allows the reader (you!) to picture actually being there.
My example of imagery:
The waves lapped at my feet as the sun set on the horizon.
Alliteration
When two or more words in a line of poetry begin with the same consonant sounds.
My example of alliteration is:
Brianna baked banana bread before breakfast.
Personification
When human qualities or action are given to inanimate or nonhuman objects.
My example of personification is:
The waves growled angrily.
